Seeking possibilities...
06/15/2008
Give me the want-ads, and I'll look through them eagerly, picturing
the type of job and a different kind of life. (Never mind that I'm
not really looking for a change - it's just fun to look and to imagine!)
Possibilities
That's what is SOOOOO exciting about talking to teens and advising
them and their parents about their future options.
What are you interested in?, I love to ask. What are your strengths?
What types of things get you interested and excited and eager to
get up in the morning?
What do you hope to do? Where are you looking to further your education?
Give me a college, and I love to research that school's approach
to education, what its strengths and weaknesses are. Even better
is the campus visit. Meeting the professors, talking to students,
sitting in the dining hall, touring the library. It gives one such
a flavor of what college life would be like there! I suddenly imagine
myself at age 18 again, and dreaming of a wonderful future pursuing
new options and fantastic possibilities.
Possibilities
That's what looking at the next step in a teen's life is all about.
Seeing what might be in one's future.
Our experience taught us that one should always seek the highest
and the best. And with preparation and wisdom in how to proceed,
having money (to pay for the tuition) did not have to be an obstacle.
There were ways to overcome the need for large tuition payments.
The answer for us was in big figure scholarships.
We sought possibilities.
We examined the options.
We strategized and planned.
The money came.
The possibilities became reality.
I encourage you to dream big. Start with your teen's strengths
and goals and what-ifs. Find the best for your student. And then
prepare him or her to get there.
If you have not already stepped through our workshops, then be
sure to study those that help you plan out your path:
Workshop A - Planning the Academics
Workshop B - Planning the Something More
Workshop C - Developing Academic Merit
Soon to be available in audiovideo format!
Includes detailed instruction in using the planning worksheets
which we provide!
If you haven't already begun, do use this summer break to get started.
Then you and your student will be ready to step into the new school
year with renewed vision and definite plans to make that good future
come true!
